MARINE PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A worker was killed in a partial building collapse in Brooklyn on Thursday morning.
It happened at 3223 Quentin Road around 9 a.m.
Officials say a shed attached to a two-story mixed-use building, which is under construction, partially collapsed.
The 43-year-old worker, identified as José Luis Moreno RamÃrez was making repairs to the restaurant and installing refrigeration on the first floor. He was discovered under a heavy slab of concrete.
RamÃrez was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
"They were currently renovating the restaurant on the first floor, they were doing installation or additions, they were actually installing a refrigeration unit in the area when the the collapse occurred," said FDNY Chief Nocerino. "So the roof came down in one piece. It's a, I'm going to say it's about a five inch slab of concrete that's about 10 by 10 feet by 12 feet, came down and pinned the victim."
The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
Inspectors said no permits for the work have been filed with the Department of Buildings.
